socks are done!

knitting 2 Comments »

socks are done! i finished my socks a couple of nights ago but only just now had a chance to take a photo of them. so here they are in cloned glory! these were done toe up with a short row heel and i just kept on knitting until the ball of yarn ran out. it’s great not to have any yarn leftover, i think that’s a great advantage to the toe up method. that an not having to graft the toe shut.

kthx!

here’s a fun read: passiveaggressivenotes.wordpress.com, a collection of notes from people complaining about something. if i could write in japanese, i’d actually be guilty of such an act. there’s someone in my building whose bike is always in the way near the entrance where everyone parks their bikes and it drives me crazy when i always have to move it to get my bike out or put it away. like please just take the few extra seconds to put your bike in a spot that doesn’t block the corridor kthx!

test your geography!

web No Comments »

the last couple of days we’ve been playing geography games to test our knowledge of where things are at in the world. it’s fun but sometimes embarrassing to realize how poor my geography is. however my knowledge of south and east asia is perfect! one would hope so considering where i’ve spent the past year…

4 down, 3 to go?

somehow reading the knitting meme on tricotine made me start thinking about how many continents i have knit on. so far, it’s 4. north america, europe, asia, and oceania. now too bad i never thought to get any photographic evidence. although i suppose it’s never too late to start. maybe it could be kind of a fun project to try and knit in as many countries as possible and get pictures of yourself doing that. i guess kind of similar to yarn harlot’s sock photos.

web wanderings

movies, web No Comments »

some neat sites i found today:

  • flickrvision and twittervision show you where in the world people are updating from. strangely mesmerizing.
  • littlebrowndress.com chronicles a year of wearing the same dress every day. the year is now finished and the author is starting a new wardrobe project of only wearing recycled clothing.

what i’ve been watching while knitting:

  • last night i watched a japanese movie called swing girls. cliche and cheesy, but cute. featured beautiful scenery of japanese countryside.
  • bridezillas on joost. joost is awesome.

oh, it’s may

things have been quiet here because i only just got back from australia and haven’t quite had a chance to get my life reorganized. my trip gave me the opportunity to finish my sock! i do however still have to bind it off. i did a loose bind off as directed in the knitty universal sock pattern, but unfortunately i still couldn’t get it over my heel. i do recall reading somewhere that there is another way to bind off that maintains the elasticity, so i’m going to have to try and find some instructions somewhere and do that when i get the chance.

i had a great time in australia! i’m working on sorting out all the pictures i took. and will probably post some eventually.
