Haute Note for wedding invitations

wedding No Comments »

The other day I was introduced to Haute Note, they have some really lovely and modern designs. And the best part is they are designed and printed in Canada, on 100lb. textured stock, and packaged in Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper.

I really like this one:

Here are a couple of blogs by brides getting married in Vancouver:

It’s a great way to get insight into venues and vendors in the Vancouver area!

cherry blossoms at brock house

I love this photo so much that it’s almost enough to make me consider moving the wedding to April! (by Sakura Photography)

Here’s another photo I really like, taken at the wedding venue I finally decided on.

That one is by Alana Couch Photography.

It’s taken me so long to finally choose a venue that I barely have time to enjoy the weight that I should feel lifted off my shoulders that I’m not even getting a breather and people are bombarding me with questions about centerpieces and flowers and decorations… whoa nellie!

I think next on my list will be to find and book a photographer…

First there was Ponoko, then Shapeways, and now I have just discovered Spoonflower, which is the one I am most excited for if only because it appeals the most to my crafty textile background.

Awesomeness!

Cassis Bistro

Vancouver, food, vegetarian No Comments »

Cassis on Urbanspoon I had a chance to check out Cassis Bistro here in downtown Vancouver recently and it was pretty tasty. They whipped up a vegetarian pizza for us as an appetizer that wasn’t on the menu because I really wanted to try Raclette cheese on a pizza (they had it on another one but it had prosciutto on it). I love it when restaurants are totally open to being accommodating to vegetarians and whip up something delicious and tasty on the spot.

Then as my ‘main’ I had the baked brie and papaya chutney crepe. Sooooo yummy! Cassis is really great little spot to have lunch, especially on a sunny day like today where you can enjoy the cute little patio in the back.

I’ve walked passed it a billion times and always thought to myself what a great name it had, but it wasn’t until I did a search on urbanspoon for nearby restaurants that it popped up and I resolved to check it out. And I’m glad I did! Btw that nearby search thing is so useful.

Comparison shopping

Uncategorized 1 Comment »

I was definitely intrigued when I found out about Canadian based online health and beauty shop well.ca’s free shipping with no minimum promotion. I did a quick comparison of my favorite shampoo but was disappointed. I just bought a new bottle a few days ago at Superstore for $3.29, and well.ca has it listed at $4.59. I thought shopping online was supposed to save me money! Maybe some of their makeup is a good deal? I’ll have to keep poking around…

Back from holidays

I went away last week and it was grrreat. But come Monday, it was back to the grind.

A friend and I have decided to work on a project together and the goal is to have it complete by the end of August. Having a deadline like that is really putting the pressure on for me, and I feel that I really need to be conscious of how I use my free time. Right now it feels like the limited time I have outside of work just disappears so fast. I really like the strategy of picking 3 things to get done each day and going from there as suggested in the article Lazy Productivity: 10 Simple Ways to do only 3 Things Today. I’m also tempted to try this little app called Rescue Time which I read about here.

The funny thing about reading about how to be more productive is that sometimes I wonder if the time wouldn’t just be better spent actually doing what I should be doing?

Action streams?

I was reading the TripIt blog, because TripIt is so awesome and I almost wish I traveled more so that I could use it more, when I came across JohnEckman.com. I like the idea of this action stream thing he has going on. Apparently I must be living on a rock to not have seen something like that sooner. I’m going to investigate the options for wordpress. And what would be the best thing to use to have blurbs saying ‘just read title-of-interesting-article’ like this one titled How a lottery winner spends his multi-million dollar jackpot. If anyone has any suggestions, I’m all ears!

What is it about cute shoes?

Had a bit of a rough day today so I made a point of getting out of the office for my lunch break. Since the weather was kind of meh I ended up having to walk through Holt’s and go distracted by these shiny cuties.

So I tried them on. And it made me feel better. Cliche, I know. At $400something on sale I couldn’t take them home though.
